Echo: Camp introduces transportation careers to girls
Thanks to a $40,000 grant from the Federal Highway Administration, Central Community College- Grand Island, Neb., is holding a Hard Hats & Heels summer camp to introduce kids to careers in transportation.
All high school students (entering grades 9-12) who have a 2.0 grade point average and one year of Algebra are welcomed to apply for this free camp. The college is focusing on recruiting minority high school girls for the camp, since minority women are underrepresented in transportation engineering careers, according to an Associated Press article.
The camp runs from July 6-16 and is limited to 20 kids. Applications are due by June 5.
